A PhD studentship in Biochemistry/Cell
biology is available in the Department of Biochemistry, School of Natural
Sciences, National University of Ireland, Galway. The candidate will
join a dynamic research group within the Apoptosis cluster and the project
will be supervised by Dr. Adrienne Gorman, in collaboration with Prof.
Afshin Samali.
The aim of the project is to identify
novel adaptor proteins that link the p75NTR receptor to pro-survival
signaling pathways in breast cancer cells. The p75NTR is a member of
the TNF family of receptors. Signalling through the p75NTR receptor
is reported to promote survival in breast cancer cells through activation
of NF-kappaB. The student will be trained in a range of biochemical
and cell biology techniques, e.g., cell culture, apoptosis techniques
(microscopy, caspase assays etc), signal transduction (NF-kappaB signaling),
protein biochemistry (immunoprecipitation, Western blotting, mass spectrometry).
This is a 3 year position funded by the UK Breast Cancer Campaign.
